Before beginning make sure to thaw out puff pastry 30-45 minutes prior to baking.
Cream cheese Filling
Beat the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth and then mix in the egg until combined and set to the side.
Apple filling:
Peel and dice the apple into ½-inch pieces and place into a small saucepan. Add in half the water, sugar and cinnamon. Cook until soft for 3-5 minutes.
Mix the remaining water and corn starch in a small bowl and then add to the cooked apples. The apples will thicken quickly. Take it off the stove and allow it to cool to the side until needed.
Crumb topping:
In a small bowl combine all the ingredients and mix until combined. There should be small clumps.
Glaze:
Mix the powdered sugar and liquid of choice until you see thick ribbons. If more liquid is needed add it in slowly or the glaze will be too runny. If the glaze is too runny just add more powdered sugar as needed.
Assembly:
Preheat Oven to 400℉ degrees
Cut the puff pastry into 6 pieces by cutting in half and then in thirds.
In a pastry bag or sandwich bag fill it with cream cheese filling and pipe it into the middle of the pastry. And then top off with filling of choice and the crumb topping.
Bake for 18-24 minutes until you see the sides rise and are golden brown.
Allow them to cool for 10 minutes and if you wanted to make the glaze you can drizzle them after 10 minutes of cooling.
Notes
These cheese Danishes can be topped with any topping of choice. Fruits, jams, chocolate chips or just be left plain with the cream cheese on.
