Cheddar Bacon Chive Scones-The perfect addition to your Saturday breakfast. They’re tender, soft, light and have just the perfect amount of cheese and bacon. It may sound a little unusual to make savory scones but what can go wrong when you see bacon and cheese together!
I’m usually more of a sweet person when it comes to breakfast, but these scones are chef’s kiss! Hand me one of these scones and a cup of coffee and my morning is set!
I first fell in love with scones when I worked at a bread bakery during my younger years of traveling to Atlanta for jobs that probably paid only my gas lol. I loved it though; I truly was living the dream of baking for a living. I learned so much in that short period of time.
They had these Lemon poppyseed scones that were light, fluffy, lemony, and it had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it. It wasn’t heavy and didn’t make you feel bad for eating a scone.
Now let me tell you the first time I had a scone. My sister loved baking in high school, and she made scones for the first time. We never even had one before, so we didn’t know what it was supposed to taste like. Well, that was my first and last time until I tried the lemon poppy scones at the bakery.
If you haven’t tried scones before I hope these can change your mind.
Ingredients
Chives: feel free to use green onions if that’s what you have on hand. I haven’t tried dried chives, but I don’t think it would be a bad substitute.
Cheese: you can choose any cheese you want but I like to use Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and I also prefer to grate my own. If you do buy pre-shredded buy the thicker ones and not the thin shredded cheese.
Bacon: I like to just use thick bacon strips. I usually put them into a 400 F oven for 15-25mins until crispy. Let the bacon grease solidify and use it in the recipe if I have time. Another alternative is buying the precooked bacon strips or real bacon bits (please don’t use the artificial ones)
Baking Powder: allows the scones to rise and not be dense
Tips to making the best Cheddar Bacon Chive Scones
Mixing: Don’t be afraid to get your hands messy. Use your fingers and break the butter in pieces to divide it evenly into the dough
Overmixing: Don’t overmix the dough, try to just mix in enough for the dough to come together. overmixing will create a tough scone
Can I freeze the cheddar Bacon Chive Scones?
Yes! You can double or triple the recipe and freeze! I like to take one or two out on the weekends for a quick breakfast on the go or just for a treat!
Storage:
These can be left in a storage container for 3 to 4 days. Reheat before enjoying them.

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425
- In a medium sized bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, sugar and whisk.
- Add the cold butter into the dry ingredients and work into it until the butter pieces are pea sized to large chunks.

- Start off with half of the heavy cream and continue to gradually add more into it forms into a dough, making sure not to overwork it.
- Pour out the dough onto a well-floured surface and roll until it's 1in thick. I just used my hands and barely pressed down the dough. Shape the dough to a rectangle and then using a bench scraper or a knife cut the dough into three triangles.
- Place the scones on a parchment lined baking sheet and top with cheese or bacon if desired. If you choose not to top them with cheese brush the tops with heavy cream to allow the tops to brown while baking.
- Bake the scones for 18 to 22 minutes depending on how thick or how big your scones are. They should be browned on top and on the sides.

I just searched and found your recipe and was eager to try it. It sounds delicious and makes a nice sized batch. However, I do not see baking powder listed in the ingredients, though it is mentioned in the recipe and instructions? It doesn’t seem like a newly posted recipe, so I am surprised I am the first to mention it.
Hi there! It is an older recipe, and I must have not remembered to type that every important ingredient in. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience. I just fixed it. Feel free to message me on my social medias if I don’t respond back early enough. Thank you!
